How long to live after heart transplant?

My friend has had his new heart for 1 complete year now with no rejection. He is 27 yrs old. How long is he expected to live?
How long can a heart transplant patient live for on average?

I remember reading something about “over a year” when I thought people who got heart transplants could live for as long as normally healthy people. What happens after a while? Does the body start rejecting the new heart? Does it not last as long? Why do people with a new heart still die early?
