My friend has had his new heart for 1 complete year now with no rejection. He is 27 yrs old. How long is he expected to live?

His prognosis sounds very good if there was no rejection. He can live on for many years if he leads a healthy lifestyle.

there is always a risk of infection, rejection but he could also get another heart. he needs to eat healthy, follow dr orders and take care of himself, no drugs, no drinks no cigs….

    Hi,
A woman recently published a book chronicling her journey since heart transplantation. That was over 17yrs ago. Her heart was only supposed to last 10yrs, tops. Here it is: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Sick-Girl/Amy-Silverstein/e/9780802118547
Organ rejection meds have come a long way since this person’s journey began. In effect, that will prevent problems before they occur. I’ve never worked in this area. I believe the prognosis is much better today. Good Luck to you both.

    30-40 more years.

According to statistics, over 50% will be dead by 10 years. I would assume that a 27 year old in otherwise good health should do better than that since so many people come to this point with other organ damage and complicating factors..
